What is mindfulness meditation?
Mindfulness means living in the here-and-now. The goal is to become aware of your surroundings and focus on what is really important right now. By focusing on the here-and-now, you help your head settle down and organize your thoughts. Mindfulness living involves focusing your attention on what you are doing in the moment. When you are driving in the car, you focus your attention on driving and not on the TO-DO list in your head.
When you eat, focus your attention on the food itself and don’t let busy conversations, your social media or the news distract you. In the same way, you give your conversation partner your full attention so that you consciously and fully experience each contact with others. In our busy and hurried lives, we sometimes forget how important this is.
To get into a mindfulness mindset, it can help to take a moment to meditate on a regular basis, and ideally daily. It doesn’t have to be difficult, and it doesn’t have to take a lot of time. Mindfulness meditations can be performed at any time during the day. For example, during your lunch break, you can take a walk through the park focusing your gaze on that experience: the rustling of the leaves in the trees, the flowers in the grass, the twittering of the birds.
As you sit at your desk, you can close your eyes for a moment and let your mind settle down. You can also take a moment of peace before bed and close your eyes for a moment while sitting on the edge of your bed. You see, mindfulness exercises can be done at any time of the day and anywhere.

What are Chakras?
In our body you will find seven major energy centers known as Chakras. Chakra is a word that comes from Sanskrit and means “wheel. In order to be in balance, the seven points in our body must constantly move or flow. Each of those 7 energy points has different properties that belong to a certain area in the body.
1° Chakra | Root Chakra
- Location: The First Chakra, also called the Root Chakra, is located at the level of the legs and pelvis.
- Color: Red
- Significance: Physical identity, stability and grounding
A blocked Root Chakra can manifest as physical discomfort such as constipation, arthritis, urinary problems or bowel problems. Emotionally, you may feel insecure about your finances, basic needs, and general well-being.
2° Chakra | Sacral Chakra
- Location: The second Chakra, also called the Sacral Chakra, is located in the lower abdomen, just below the navel, near the sacrum.
- Color: Orange
- Significance: sexuality and intimacy, emotions and creativity
A blocked Sacral Chakra can manifest as urinary infections, lower back pain, and sexual problems such as impotence and decreased libido. Emotionally, the Sacral Chakra is connected to your feelings of self-worth.
3° Chakra | Solar Plexus Chakra
- Location: The third Chakra, also called the Navel Chakra or Solar Plexus Chakra, is located at the level of the navel.
- Color: Yellow

4° Chakra | Heart Chakra

Blockages in the Heart Chakra often manifest as heart problems, asthma and weight problems. Emotionally, a disrupted Heart Chakra leads to loneliness and insecurity, and connection with others is often problematic.
5° Chakra | Throat Chakra
- Location: The fifth Chakra, also called the Throat Chakra, is located in the area of the cervical vertebrae and larynx.

- Significance: Communication
A blocked Throat Chakra manifests mainly in communication problems. This causes voice, mouth and/or throat problems. Emotionally, you often see the inability to express oneself or just dominating conversations, speaking without thinking or gossiping.
6° Chakra | Third Eye Chakra
- Location: The Sixth Chakra, also called the Forehead Chakra, or Third Eye Chakra, is located on the forehead between the eyes.
- Color: Indigo
- Meaning: awareness, intuition and imagination
Blockages in the Third Eye Chakra often lead to headaches, vision or hearing problems, or difficulty concentrating. Emotionally, the connection to your intuition is disrupted as well as your connection to reality.
7° Chakra | Crown Chakra
- Location: The seventh Chakra, also called the Crown Chakra, is located in the area of the crown.
- Color: Violet
- Significance: spirituality and enlightenment
The Crown Chakra is linked to all the other chakras and therefore affects not only our brain, but also the nervous system and all other organs. It is the Chakra of enlightenment and represents spirituality and the meaning of life. A blocked Crown Chakra manifests in stubbornness, narrow-mindedness and skepticism.

How do you cleanse and purify gemstones?
Before you can use gemstones for mindfulness meditations, it is important to first cleanse and purify them of outside energy. You do this by briefly holding the stones under cold running water. Please note that some stones such as selenite and calcite are very sensitive to water. So don’t let them soak in the water.
You can also cleanse your stones by placing them in the light of the full moon for a night. Always do this behind glass and not outside. Different weather influences (sun, rain, temperature) can change the color of your gemstones. There are other techniques for cleaning your gems, but these are the simplest.
Now your stones are cleansed and pure and you can harness the energy for your own healing.
How do you do chakra meditation exercises?
Chakra stones can be used to focus attention on one of the Chakras while meditating. You do this by taking the stone in your palm that corresponds to the relevant Chakra. If you have a blockage in one of the energy points, the stone can help you clear that blockage. To do this, take the stone in your hand and speak the following affirmation: “Give me the strength to…”
You can also place the chakra stones next to you while meditating. The energy of the gemstones will enhance the purpose of your mindfulness meditations.

Meditating can be done anytime and anywhere
Meditating doesn’t always have to be in a specific place at a specific time. Mindfulness meditations can be practiced anywhere, at home, at work, on the train or on a walk.
Some examples for inspiration: You can put your meditation stones on your nightstand. Before sleeping, you can pass the stones through your hands one by one. You can use this moment to speak an affirmation or to quiet your mind after a busy day.
Leave the car on the driveway a little more often and walk to work. Pick a scenic route if possible and take in the scenery you see along the way. Leave your smartphone closed a little more often and peer out the window of the train. Play with the meditation stones in your pocket and look at the houses, trees, cars you see around you. Live in the moment.
You can also meditate at work. By placing your meditation stones on your desk next to you, you can use their power and energy while working. You can pass the stones through your hands while you reflect or while you take a short meditation break. In doing so, close your eyes for a few minutes and let your head settle down.
You can also turn your gaze outward and shift your focus to a piece of nature you see outside: a tree, a bird, the clouds in the sky…. Try to focus your attention fully on the object you have chosen, concentrate on your breathing and feel your head and body relax. Your colleagues don’t even have to realize it….
